Winter..no Break

..The whole piece

It's been a little while, now that exams and everything are over with, it's time to get down to a lot of work. Just wanted to throw up some recent stuff. At the top is a small look at a personal painting I've been working on. More on the painting in it's entirety will be added when I can get an acceptable picture of it. The other two pieces are just more experimental with a the recent technique I've been using and ink with a little concept thrown in. Thanks for checking it out. Comments..crits..are welcome. That's all for now!

ELECTION DAY!

Just wanted to post this piece for the occasion. This piece touched on Obama and his young multicultural coalition. Had some great direction from my teacher Robert Meganck on this one. The day is finally here. November 4th. GO VOTE!

Fallen Soldiers & few sketches

Ahh, so this past weekend both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes passed away.  So I figured I'd do a little something to commemorate them both.  I did a sketch of Bernie Mac and a quick painting of Isaac Hayes...two great men, R.I.P.  I need to get a better picture of the Isaac Hayes piece.  I've also been working on some bigger paintings, so more to come soon.  That's it for now!

Academy Assignment & Sketches

Ahhhh, back from the Academy, what a journey!  Words can't describe the experience.  I will post everything done from the Academy once I find a large enough scanner, but in the mean time I've posted our Rolling Stone assignment from visiting artists/instructors Robin Eley and Scott Anderson.  The letter I drew was "F", so I chose to do the group the Fugees.  I've included all the process work: thumbnails, sketches, and final drawing.  I enjoyed this assignment tremendously.  Finally, in celebration of the new Batman movie I posted a quick sketch from the sketchbook of my favorite childhood hero and television show growing up.  Yes, the POW! Batman.  Can't beat that, haha.  Well that's all for now!

Academy Figures

Here are some of the figure drawings we've been doing at the academy.  This technique all the instructors have showed us is pretty dope.  All of these range from 5-20 min. and the last one was done with my right hand.  I think I'm starting to grasp the idea of how these pastels work and I'm definitely having a blast here.

Book Cover

Here's my rendition of the book cover for the book: Fallen Angels.  Started out painting, then worked it's way to digital for a few last touches.  It was always one of my favorite books growing up, about an African American teenager from Harlem coming into his own in the Vietnam War.

Plein Air

I haven't been plein air painting in a while, but here's my first shot back at it.  Now that I have a little more free time, I'll be going out a little more and painting more  landscapes and other things.

Blind Musician, Figure, and Collaboooo

I realized I haven't posted anything that I feel really represents how I normally work, sooooo...Here's a few paintings (above) I did a while back, the 1st one is a conceptual piece about a blind man inspired with  music, the 2nd is a nude figure study, and the 3rd is a collaborative piece with my roommate, we painted each other.  I painted the figure on the left.

First Painter Attempt

So this was my first time using Corel Painter.  Our assignment was just to create a self portrait using the program.  Took roughly an hour mainly due to getting used to how the brushes work.
